COVID-19 Precautions

For the safety of our community we are amping up our protocols that are now mandatory at Hops N Shine. While our dine-in area facilities are closed for public use we are offering curbside pickup and a contactless pickup. In offering these methods, orders are now double bagged to ensure delivery items are not exposed. Only one staff member from Hops N Shine handles your food from start to finish. Carryout orders will now be placed on a table in the front of the restaurant to ensure minimal contact is required. All employee’s temperatures are taken before and during their shift to ensure no fever. They also observe mandatory glove and medical mask policy. Under no circumstance are workers to come in if they are feeling under the weather. Sanitization of all door handles, carry out areas, prep stations, and kiosks will be done regularly throughout the day. Our main priority is to keep our loyal customers and staff safe while serving you the food, beer, and cocktails you love!

Family Meals

You asked; we are delivering! Our family meals every Friday and Sunday night have been a hit. These meals include an entrée, an assortment of sides, and a dessert. Each meal should feed a family of four, two adults and two kids, but will fluctuate in size slightly based upon the cost of the meal. We’re just trying to breakeven on cost of ingredients to cost of the meal. Any extra revenue will go to support our staff and our other pay-it-forward initiatives. C.J. and Philip have been sitting down each week to customize a menu for everyone’s liking. They are also the two that prepare the meals to take some of the work off of our kitchen staff. For reference if you have never heard of our family style orders here are some previous meals that have been prepared. Fajita Friday was our first ever family style, and included tortillas, Mexican rice, chicken and shrimp fajitas, and corn. Some other previous meals were pulled pork, smoked whole chicken, and Quiche for Sunday Brunch. Most meals are ready to go at 5:00 PM each day for carry-out and delivery in the Del Ray, Old Town, Potomac Yards, and South Arlington areas. For the upcoming meals one we have a vegetarian option of grilled cauliflower steak with chimichurri. This will include some sides such as avocado salad, stuffed portobello mushrooms and pumpkin pie. Sunday’s BBQ meal will be a beef brisket dinner, included with that is smoked gouda smashed potatoes, collard greens, cheddar biscuits, slaw, and chocolate chip cookies. Pay it Forward

As a business who thrives off of community involvement and organizing events to the public, we want to give back to our community. As a staff, we need your help to provide first responders on the front lines of this pandemic and those unemployed restaurant workers who help provide you with the food you love. When you are buying a meal you can also buy either a meal, gift card, and/or beer for these amazing people. For every meal bought for a healthcare worker Hops N Shine will contribute another meal to these first responders. If you buy any gift card to donate to health care professionals you will also receive something based on the price of the gift card. These include a $25 gift card you will receive one free roll of toilet paper, $50 gift card you will receive a free roll of toilet paper and a pack of sanitizing wipes, $100 gift card and you will receive a free roll of toilet paper, a pack of sanitizing wipes, and hand sanitizer. At the end each week we will tally the healthcare workers’ meals and gift cards and deliver them to the hospital or site the following week for the staff to eat during their lunch break. While we love our grilled cheeses and wings, they can get messy, so we’re creating some variations off of them that are easier for the workers to grab and go during their shift. For those not there or available to eat, we will leave the gift cards to redeem at a later date. Each week we’ll post how many meals and beers are purchased for unemployed restaurant workers.  They can then message us their orders through Facebook. If your business is interested in contributing in any way, please send an email to us at info@hopsnshine.com. We would love to partner in any way we can. Also reach out if you or a loved one works in a facility that could use something new and fresh for lunch. Finally, as another source of helping restaurant workers we have set up a GoFundMe for our very own kitchen staff to help them support their families. Support the Hops N Shine Kitchen Staff

You can read the full letter below. Customers have also asked what they can do to support our business and our employees during a time where business is uncertain. Washington City Paper wrote a great article about the various ways to help. If you don’t feel safe dining with us, we encourage you to to patronize us in three particular ways. Carry Out – We have already seen an uptick in delivery and carry out orders. The best possible way is to order directly through our system. This ensures all of the funds go to our business, and gives you the opportunity to tip our staff. As an added bonus if you download the app and use the code ‘TAKE5’ you will receive $5 off of your first order. Delivery – GrubHub recently announced that they are suspending their fees for independent restaurants using their network. Most delivery services take a 30% cut from what you pay, leaving us with a very small margin. Thank you to GrubHub for their support of independent businesses. E-Gift Cards – Want to show us some love now, and come enjoy our company at a later date? You are able to purchase e-gift cards to show us that you will come back to support us in the future. Below was our first letter to our patrons on steps we are taking to protect them. We will continue to update you on steps we take as they are implemented. —————————————————————————– Dear Valued Patrons, As the coronavirus pandemic spreads and more information becomes readily available, our team at Hops N Shine would like to assure you we are taking the proper steps to protect your safety and well-being. In addition to increasing and enhancing our normal cleaning procedures, which include disinfecting and polishing all surfaces and equipment, we are planning to add hand sanitizing stations throughout the restaurant for guests and staff. We have also re-educated our team in the proper cleaning and hand washing techniques recommended by food and safety professionals and are investing in hospital grade cleaning supplies, disposable gloves and wet naps. As more information becomes available from the authorities regarding the coronavirus, we will continue adjusting our methods and operations to best serve you. We encourage you to visit our website and follow us on social media for the latest news, updates, and interactive features to stay connected to our establishment. You can also find guidelines on the CDC site on how to best keep you and your family safe and healthy during this time. This remains a complicated and rapidly evolving situation that reminds us we are all part of a broader society with a responsibility to look out for one another. We are abundantly grateful for your understanding and continued business. Sincerely, Hops N Shine
